Should I be offended when someone burns a US flag? ...what if it were another country's flag?
Should I respect that some people do not want to be reminded of the past, embodied in public Confederate statues (or statues of Stalin, or...)?
Should I not get angry, when gangs leave their tags, as that's just them exercising their freedom of speech?
Should I not get angry when others activate an individual's triggers by their "artistic expression"?
I do not have answers for you. However, be careful of the idolatry you give to these public places and symbols, for they are all impermanent and subject to change.
I am reminded of Ozymandius' two pillars in the sand...
